Chosen Answer:

You need to ask a eye Dr. about contact lens. Floaters will never go away. The only way I manage with floaters is keep house dark, wear sun glasses when outside even on cloudy days. I don’t wear contact lens but call go go and see maybe you can.

Hello. I’ve had surgery on my left eye on June 2010 for retinal detachment. It was actually a “huge” or “giant” retinal tear, they said. I had scleral buckling and a gas bubble, then laser surgery to make sure the retina stayed in place. 2 1/2 years later my eye still has huge floaters, a shadow (because they said the liquid did not come out from under the fold on my retina) which causes me to see flashes, and my vitreous is slightly fogged, which causes light to be brighter and more irritating. After those years of dealing with this every day, I decided to ask if I could get it fixed. I just got off the phone with one of my doctors and she said that in my current condition I cannot. She said if I see an increase in the flashes or in the tear, then we could (assuming I had a re-detachment). But, until my retina heals all the way, we cannot. I was surprised to hear that part, because I thought my retina had been (partially) healed this entire time. I don’t think the retina will heal the shadow area (since that part would most likely have to be surgically repaired) so I guess there’s a part of my retina that still hasn’t fully healed, but I just can’t tell. I fully understand that if it isn’t healed all the way yet, the safest route is to wait for it to heal before having another surgery. But, it’s been 2 1/2 years. Just HOW LONG will it take for my retina to heal “all the way”? She told me she couldn’t tell me for sure because everyone has a different body, so it could vary. Generally speaking, how long does a retinal detachment (or huge for that matter) take to FULLY heal? She told me I can ask the other doctor about it when I see them again, but that’s in 6 months. I really want to know how long I have to wait. Please help.

Chosen Answer:

i feel like either she misunderstood you or you misunderstood her or both.

after a retinal detachment surgery you are never really considered “healed” you are considered to be STABLE.
once you have reached 6 months post op without any complications you are considered stable.
also any vision problems that you have after the gas bubble has completely gone away are likely permanent.

basically what the doctor told you was that they aren’t going to do anything to your eye unless you have another tear or detachment and what they will do then is just fix it again.

they will not do anything that t6hey find is an unnecessary risk.

do as she said and talk to the other doctor about it when you go in 6 months or make an appointment for sooner if you want but i can tell you that you will most likely be living with this for the rest of your life so you will have to learn how to move on.

Chosen Answer:

You need to consult with a doctor to determine what treatment options, if any will work for your specific situation. I suggest asking about an Intraocular lens (IOL) to see if that is an option for you.

I have a floater in my visreal fluid (I probably spelled that wrong). It is getting worse as time goes on. My left eye looks like I am looking through fog, and it makes it hard to focus properly. I know I need to see an opthomologist, but the last one I saw said there was nothing they could do. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you take care of it?

Chosen Answer:

Floaters are very common and generally are harmless, but some are not and signal problems with the retina, especially those accompanied by flashing lights. You need to have it evaluated again, especially if you feel it’s getting worse. Time is definitely of the essence where the retina is involved. Don’t wait! That said, it you have had a posterior vitreous detachment without retinal involvement, the floaters can be quite large and annoying. There is no mainstream treatment for it and you typically have to make friends with it. There are surgeons out there who will try to reduce them with laser treatment. This is occasionally successful. I had a patient choose to undergo that procedure. He had to travel four hours away to find someone who would perform it, and his results weren’t satisfactory. Take home point: go to another doctor for another opinion immediately.

Chosen Answer:

First of all go get your eyes examined. Floaters are not normal. Drink at least 6 to 8, 8oz glasses of water daily. Eat omega 3 fatty acids and foods rich in antioxidants and beta carotene. Your right about the fish, or you could take fish oil for the omega 3′s. Blueberries and green tea are rich in antioxidants. Oranges, lemons, and red peppers and tomatoes for vitamin C.. Carrots, sweet potatoes and and other orange colored foods are rich in beta carotene. Wear sunglasses when outdoors. The wraparound type are best, they should provide 100% protection from harmful rays. I forget the two kinds, one is UV rays. Grill your fish, using olive oil or canola oil. Don’t add sugar to your vegetables, just a little bit of Smart Balance Margarine. Your meat portion should be the size of the palm of your hand. You could grill some chicken breasts too. If you eat ground beef, make sure it’s 96%lean. Whole ground Flax-seed is an excellent source of omega3′s and fiber and can be added to a whole grain cereal, a protein shake or even to meatloaf.. Most of all don’t smoke! Hope this helps.

Chosen Answer:

Okay, you should go to the doctor.

Eye floaters are harmless if they are small or just a bit or if they don’t change in form, quantity or opacity.
If you say that they are getting bigger you should go to a doctor, they can be a sign of the detachment of the retina.

They appear because of the opacification of the vitreous, that is the gel we have inside the eye.
If your myopia is high (let’s say -6 or above) you are more prone to have a detachment of the retina.

One in particular I have been seeing looks similar to the streptococci bacteria and it wiggles around. Are these actually on my eye, and is there any explination for this?
Are they floaters?

Click Here To Get Eye Floaters No More Best Offer!

Chosen Answer:

Yes, pagold is right. I have tons of floaters and they’ve been there as long as I can remember. It used to freak me out when I was a young girl because no one else ever knew what I was talking about. I thought maybe I was seeing ghosts or something. You can never seem to look right at them because they keep traveling. Mine are more noticable in bright sunlight, but I’ve learned to ignore them. Sometimes, I’ll have a really big one, and it makes me jump because I think its a bug.

They are totally normal, unless you notice a sudden increase of them, or if they are accompanied by flashes of light; this can be indicative of a retinal detachment sometimes.

So,. its not steptococcal bacteria or any other micro-organizims. Just the jelly casting shadows on your retina.

What is happening when I see a bright circular light in my eyes?

I’ve had this happen twice now. I start to feel icky. Not sick to my stomach, or headache, not flu like, just icky and then this bright light appears in my eyes like when a eye doctor is looking into my eye when I have an eye exam with his light. I mean it’s that bright. The only other way I could explain it is like the old time flash in a camera and you look away and you see a dark spot, well this is the opposite. I am 55 years old. And sure some people will write and say see a doctor, but the closest one is 100+ miles away. Plus it’s only happened twice, in the last few months. What do you think it is? So I can research it over the internet and then travel those 100 miles etc. Thanks!

Chosen Answer:

Do you have floaters? Floaters will appear as little black specks in your vision. If you have those and are seeing the bright flashes of light then you really need to get to a doctor as soon as possible. Your retina could be detaching. This also can be caused by an ocular migraine. Look up floaters and ocular migraines on the internet and read more about the symptoms of each.
